Since September 2015, there have been significant changes to A-Levels and, more recently, to GCSEs. But what has not changed is the pressure upon students to achieve the very highest grades they are capable of.

The spring term of the academic year sees students begin to contemplate the GCSE and A-Level examinations that lie ahead in the forthcoming summer term. They and their teachers reach a point of being able to clearly identify strengths and weaknesses across the subjects being studied but the question  of ‘How do I improve?’ remains in the minds of many students.  For some it is deepening their knowledge and understanding; for others it is improving their skills of analysis and evaluation that must be applied to knowledge and understanding to achieve high grades. Simply finding it difficult to manage their time and thus revise efficiently and effectively is a recurring problem for many students.

How can these issues be tackled? Clearly, a student’s first source of advice and guidance should be his or her teachers and any other member of staff at a school who works with students to develop study skills. Parents can help through providing an environment at home that encourages a systematic and structured approach. However, as all parents and teachers know, whilst advice and support can be given it is often not acted upon for a whole host of reasons.

For many students, an Easter Revision course can provide a solution through a framework of focused, well-structured and intensive revision within small groups that, upon completion, can lead to a student having hugely increased confidence in tackling examinations.

When considering enrolling for an Easter Revision course there are some key factors to consider:

  • Is the course specific to the examination board specification I am studying?
  • How many students will be in the class?
  • How many days are spent studying one subject?
  • Does the course encompass examination technique?
  • Will feedback be provided at the end of the course?
  • Is an option to board during the course available?
  • How long has the course provider been offering Easter Revision?

Oxford Sixth Form College has been offering Easter Revision courses for over twenty-five years and this year the college is offering courses from 8th – 18th April 2019, catering to a broad range of subjects and exam board specifications across A-Level, GCSE and Cambridge Pre-U examinations.

Class sizes are a maximum of eight students and the courses are taught by experienced and able teachers, covering study skills, essay planning and a review of the core material through subject seminars. A boarding option is also available.
