What is BTEC Plus?

Your business course focuses on what you want to learn.  All students take four core units which give them an introduction to and understanding of the business environment, management of resources, marketing and communication: all fundamental to the success of business organisations.

What will I study?

The course consists of 12 units that are assessed in-College by the tutors; there are no external exams.  Students learn to research, give presentations, produce papers and projects, work in teams, develop their communication skills and study a wide range of business topics.  There is feedback at the end of each unit, allowing students to develop a clear sense of how they are progressing.

The structure of the qualification allows a great deal of choice and flexibility. All students take four core units which introduce the fundamentals of business organisations:

  • The Business Environment
  • Business Resources
  • Introduction to Marketing
  • Business Communication

The other eight units come from a list of more specialist areas, including Finance, Management, Promotion, Market Research, Setting up a Small Business and Human Resources.

What will I gain from studying the subject?

With your qualification you can study a variety of subjects at leading UK and international universities. Recent BTEC Plus students have chosen to study Business at universities such as King’s College London, Surrey, Manchester and Liverpool, whilst others will be studying anthropology, politics, international relations, engineering, music management and fashion communication at a variety of universities, including UCL, Exeter, Royal Holloway and Reading.

Students at Oxford Tutorial College apply to UK universities through the UCAS process. We have a dedicated Higher Education and Progression Officer who can give the advice you need to make the best choice.

Universities in the UK make offers to students based on the qualifications being studied, each grade has a potential number of points. The university will make an offer based on the total points expected or on specific grades.

How is it assessed?

100% coursework. There are NO exams.

Each unit carries the same weight.

Exam board: Edexcel
