English Language

University life is rewarding, but not without it’s challenges. English language skills can help you communicate to make friends, ask questions in lectures and rise to the top of your class.

Learning about Business

To understand all the elements of business we teach through group projects and tasks, encouraging leadership, teamwork and other professional skills. You will learn to research, develop and then present ideas - a way of studying that is much closer to the independent learning you will experience at university.

Mathematics for Business

Maths plays a vital role in most business related subjects. You will receive a great grounding in the subject and learn how to apply your knowledge to solving problems at work.

Studying in the UK

For many international students their experience at OTC is also their first time studying in another country. We will help you transition to UK academic life teaching you what you can expect at a UK university.

Focus your studies

Study BusinessYour business course focuses on what you want to learn.  All students take four core units which give them an introduction to and understanding of the business environment, management of resources, marketing and communication: all fundamental to the success of business organisations. The core courses are:

  • The Business Environment
  • Business Resources
  • Introduction to Marketing
  • Business Communication

The other eight units come from a list of more specialist areas, including Finance, Management, Marketing, Law, Administration, and Human Resources.  The precise route through the course for each student will depend on the nature and interest of the class and through discussion with individual students.

What can I do with a University Pathway in Business?

Your University Pathway in Business incorporates a BTEC in Business as well as options for additional A-levels. With your qualification you can go into a variety of jobs in management, marketing, finance, customer service or human resources.

Applying to University

Students at OTC apply to UK universities through the UCAS process. We have a dedicated Higher Education Office where you get the advice you need to make the best choice.

Universities in the UK make offers to students based on the qualifications being studied, each grade has a potential number of points. The university will usually make an offer based on the total points expected. The table below shows the relationship between A-levels, AS levels and BTEC.

Grade A-Levels AS-Levels BTEC
A 120 60 120 Distinction
B 100 50
C 80 40 80 Merit
D 60 30
E 40 20 40 Pass

For example:

Subject Grade
AS Maths Grade B 50
A-level own language Grade B 100
BTEC Level 3 in Business Studies Double Distinction 240
Total 390

This is the equivalent of 3 A grade A-levels, and remember the assessment for BTEC is through coursework.
